As the third season of the upcoming Netflix comedy Never Have I Ever debuts, the stars of the show look back at what culture means and what it means to them.
Created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, the series follows 15-year-old Indian-American Tamil girl Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she navigates high school while dealing with her personal trauma.
The comedy was praised for its representation and breaking of South Asian stereotypes by critics and fans alike.
Season 1 has a 95 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Season 2 has a 94 percent approval rating.
However, this type of response often does not apply to representations that move the representation.
Actress Poorna Jagannathan, who plays Devi's mother, told Variety in a recent interview,..
"I've been acting for a few years and I remember every pilot around was Asian or Middle Eastern. That family dies in the pilot."
